Here are a few common reasons why a claim may sometimes be declined:

  • Professional recommendation may be needed
    Some items work best when recommended by an Occupational Therapist (OT) or another allied health professional, especially if the support need is not already clearly documented in the plan.
  • Not clearly linked to "reasonable and necessary" supports
    The NDIS looks for a clear connection between the item, the participant's disability-related needs, and their plan goals.
  • Everyday or easily replaceable items
    If an item is considered something that could be reasonably replaced with a low-cost household or community alternative, the claim may not be approved.
  • Funding category differences
    Each NDIS plan is unique. Items need to fit within the participant's funded support categories, which can vary from plan to plan.
